Upon meeting Elizabeth DeRamus, you immediately know she is a Southerner. She was born in Opelika, Alabama in 1965 and raised in Selma, Alabama. She became a photographer at 13 when her parents gave her a Pentax 35mm camera for Christmas. It changed her life. After many years of shooting and entering the local fair contest, and actually winning a couple of ribbons, Elizabeth knew she had to take photographs for a living.

After five years of traditional college, Elizabeth finally fulfilled a dream and went to photography school in Atlanta, Georgia. She admits these were the toughest two years of her life. However through her persistence and talent she graduated with honors.

Elizabeth is a courageous seeker of knowledge, truth, and soul. Her openness, candor, warmth of spirit, and sense of humor immediately puts her subjects at ease.

During a shoot, one feels their image and innermost feelings are in the kindest of hands. This compassion and respect for her subjects is vividly reflected in her work. The intimacy shared between subject and photographer is a trademark of Elizabeth’s work. In an instant, she captures a rare glimpse into one’s soul.

While her greatest love is photographing people in a documentary style, Elizabeth’s experience and talent translates powerfully in her commercial work as well. Whether book covers, magazine editorials, annual reports, advertising assignments, or personal portraits, she bridges the gap from camera, to subject, to audience with persuasion, emotion, and integrity. Her understanding and ability to connect quickly with people allows her to create images that satisfy the mission and vision of her clients.
